AIST and Sanno develop an ultrathin palladium membrane with higher pressure resistance

AIST and Sanno have developed a self-supporting composite membrane for hydrogen separation that combines an about 1.5 µm palladium layer with a porous nickel support. In the reported tests, the membrane maintained sealing performance up to a 0.75 MPa pressure difference at 400 °C, with hydrogen flow above 150 cm3 per minute over a 7.1 mm effective diameter.
