Brother Industries has announced the development of the SPEEDIO M300Xd2-64T, a compact multitasking machine that the company describes as the first spindle 30 multitasking model capable of carrying up to 64 tools. The new version substantially increases tool capacity versus the previous model and expands the company's M series for combined turning and machining work.
Brother links the development to broader manufacturing changes across sectors including automotive, semiconductors, aerospace and medical. According to the company, production patterns have been shifting away from mass production toward high-mix, variable-volume manufacturing and small-lot output. As a result, the number of tool types used on machine tools has increased, making tool change time a more important productivity factor.
The company also points to stronger demand for multitasking machines that can consolidate several operations on a single machine and reduce setup change time. In that context, the SPEEDIO M300Xd2-64T was developed in response to market requests for more tool positions, with the stated aim of significantly shortening tool exchange time during production.
Brother says the machine reaches its 64-tool capacity through an internal layout that combines a 21-tool front magazine with a 43-tool storage unit positioned at 90 degrees. According to the manufacturer, that arrangement allows the machine to store all 64 tools while keeping the overall machine body compact.
The company notes that the product is still under development. At the trade shows where it is due to appear, the machine will be presented as a reference exhibit for technical display rather than as a final production launch. Its first public showing is scheduled for IMTS 2026 in Chicago from September 14, followed by AMB 2026 in Stuttgart and JIMTOF 2026 in Tokyo.
Brother says it will continue development work on the model toward future commercialization. For the CNC machining market, the project reflects continuing interest in machine platforms that combine compact size, multitasking capability and larger onboard tool capacity to support more fragmented and complex production requirements.
